About SOTA

The Society of Typographic Aficionados is an international not-for-profit organization formed in 1998 by typophile Bob Colby. It is dedicated to increasing public awareness and appreciation of the art and history of typography, as well as its function in creating beautiful and successful communications. SOTA is committed to sponsoring relevant topics in pursuit of these goals. The annual TypeCon plays a major role in accomplishing this aim.

About TypeCon 2010: Babel

Twelve years after their first physical gathering in Westborough, Massachusetts, TypeCon will be held for the first time in the great city of Los Angeles. Aside from the yearly Type and Design Education forum and an exhibition of international type and design, as well as dozens of workshops, presentations, tours and networking events, TypeCon 2010 will explore the hot button topic of web fonts, the antique type and lettering of the textile trade, the typography and lettering of Disneyland, the life of beloved type designer/letterpress printer/book artist Jim Rimmer through a documentary film, and the potential for a graduate program in type design in the US.
