MyClic.MobiIf anything, it’s already the present. The future does hold a lot in store, though. MyClix, an upstart tech company described by vice president & co-founder Anna McNab as a “green” mobile-technology company, which began in the Front Range of Colorado’s Rocky Mountains” is banking heavily on the growth of mobile phone use as a medium for advertising. Mobile advertising can be seen as a very specialized venture perhaps since at present, less than 1% of advertising expenditures worldwide are allotted for mobile phone advertising.

MyClix may very well be at the forefront of an upcoming revolution in the way commodities are bought and sold and information is distributed. There are several compelling reasons to try to reach out to people with their cellphones. Consider the following:

  • 89% of all text messages are read (Rettie, Grandcolas & Deakins)
  • 120 Billion Text Messages are sent/received every month in the US. More than 4 Billion every day. (CTIA, October 2009)
  • More texts than calls are placed every month. The average person sends 357 text each month versus 204 phone calls. (Nielsen Mobile, 10/08)
  • Mobile Phones are the most important devices in an American’s daily life (Pew Research, 3/08)
  • 89% of major brands plan to market via mobile phones by 2010 (Airwide Solutions)

Advertisements that use traditional media still gets most of the ad dollars businesses are willing to spend. But with mobile phones worldwide outnumbering television sets 3 to 1, and total PC and laptop internet users 5 to 1, it’s clear that there is huge room for growth, making MyClix one of the first on the ground in this new world of mobile advertising.

Anna McNab adds “Using the technology of SMS messaging, MyClix can offer real time deals, events and special promotions sent directly to consumer’s cell phones as soon as they become available!…
MyClix mobile marketing service provides the ability to send demographic and time specific messages via text message. Drive loyalty, sales and a higher level of customer service.”

Delivering timely promotions isn’t the only advantage of MyClix’s advertising methods. SMS ads are by their nature, a lot less obtrusive than the mainstream alternatives. People can receive and look at them while they’re at a meeting, or when they’re in situations where other forms of communication might not be acceptable.

Another advantage to the way they do business is that mobile advertising is environmentally sustainable and is at the same time, very economical. Very few resources need to be spent when conducting promotions and advertisements through mobile devices.

Perhaps the best advantage of mobile advertising is that it is interactive, unlike most other forms of advertising. You can respond to offers immediately, and discreetly. As of now, the only other widespread two-way advertising method (internet-connected laptops and PCs) is quite cumbersome. People generally have to be in a set location to respond to offers. Other forms of traditional media don’t even let people respond at all.

The use of this innovative medium also allows for a very focused an smart ad campaign, suited for very specific targets.Anna McNab relates “Prior to Presidio Apartments beginning a mobile campaign their property was 60% occupied.  They then began using a MyClix mobile campaign to both acquire new residents and increase customer service and retention of their current residents…[Myclix promoted] their pool parties, yoga classes, alerting residents of maintenance around the property, reminding residents of rent dues, informing residents of package deliveries and more. Within 3 short months, using the power of mobile, their occupancy increased from 60% to over 90%! ”

Despite its leading edge business model, MyClix still needs good old ink on paper every once in a while. For this, they teamed with UPrinting. “UPrinting has helped me market MyClix by providing high quality tri-fold pamphlets which have served as an effective learning tool for prospective new clients.” says McNab “They also printed our Euro stickers which have helped created brand awareness around the MyClix “M”. Lastly, they printed our business cards, which of course are a must when marketing a company!
