Fright Rags LogoJudah Friedlander wore one of our shirts on NBC’s 30 Rock” Says Benjamin Scrivens, president and founder of Fright Rags, a Rochester, New York-based clothing company whose website promises “Kick-Ass Horror Shirts”. Personally, that’s all I really need to hear. I’m sold. If it’s good enough for Judah Friedlander, then it’s good enough for me. Probably. Maybe I just like Tina Fey THAT much.

We know a few things for sure- many of us do like horror films, and many people consider horror fans sort of geeky. What we can’t say for sure is if they’re right, but the details on the prints-some of which appeal to the most esoteric of trivia factoids- are exactly the kind that appeals to the classic horror movie buffs among us.

That’s exactly what Benjamin Scrivens is about. [Our vision is] To constantly push the boundaries of horror apparel and customer service. These are products made by fans, for fans.” He continues, emphasizing how much he’s got the fans in mind “We offer a complete experience featuring premium products and a ridiculous obsession with customer service.” Their customers base is also notoriously difficult to please: movie geeks.Shining and Wolfman

The team behind Fright Rags has a lot of respect for the material and the subjects they work with. Scrivens himself started his business because of his passion for horror movies. “I started Fright-Rags in 2003 as a way to let off some creative steam. I’ve always loved horror films and quirky t-shirts so I thought, why not put them together?”

People of passion (e.g. geeks) thrive on the small details that make up the things they love. Let’s put it this way; if you have something that very few people understand and you meet someone who DOES get it, Cthulu help us -it’s like meeting a long-lost member of your tribe.

Just because a shirt has Pennywise or Dr. Ackula on it, doesn’t mean we (alleged) horror geeks will snap it up. Whether we want it or not really is all in the details. This is where Fright Rags is different- if you’d allow some room for possible hyperbole, these handcrafted shirts are designed with love and it shows. Things that are made with as much respect and attention to detail as Fright Rags products are an increasingly rare thing these days. And these are things more and more people want. Ironic, since these days rampant commercialism has gone and made sure that quality and passion are thrown out the window, and along with them the true spirit of things.

Perhaps it all depends on how one defines success. For some, it doesn’t have to be all about the money- it’s all about making bringing people together, helping us connect with something or making us what we all want to be: happy.Jason Voorhes' heads

Scriven relates “Success to me is that often unspoken bond between us and our customers. It’s when they see one of our shirts that may spark a childhood memory of when they saw a particular film, or scene, and they can relate to the artwork. It’s connections like these that we strive for in each and every t-shirt design.” Products for fans, by fans. Just like he said.

The people behind Fright Rags know a thing or two about design, that’s why they have been with UPrinting for the past 4 years, helping bring their business cards, posters, stickers to life. Or back from the dead. Scriven tells us “…I am extremely happy with the products and service. For a site that offers a wide variety of products, you certainly make it very easy to order. The navigation, user interface, everything is just top notch.”

Like the folks at Fright Rags, we at UPrinting know the importance of handling the smallest details. What we and the their designers know is that the little things are what really count in the end.“We’ve used UPrinting to help create a custom line of trading cards that we give out in each order. It’s small touches like those that help us stand apart from the competition, and UPrinting was the only source I chose to help produce them.”
