Baby Cakes Logo Inside a charming home located within the gentrified and hip Hillcrest neighborhood of San Diego, there is a haven for sweet-toothed individuals looking for their ‘babycakes’. Driving across 5th Avenue, people will find the lovely, tiffany blue craftsman-style home where Christopher Stavros and baker extraordinaire, Rafael del Rio act as matchmakers between dessert lovers and cupcakes. This magical place is called Babycakes San Diego.

Babycakes San Diego has enchanted cupcake lovers who keep coming back for a taste of Rafael’s creative and unique flavors such as the Red Velvet, Blood Orange, Guava/Mango, Pistachio, and Pomegranate cupcakes. Dessert fans who are afraid to experiment need not fret about being left out. Rafael also serves up more familiar but no less appetizing creations like the Peanut Butter & Jelly, Classic Chocolate Fudge, and Hazelnut, etc. which he personally bakes every morning.

The store’s signature variation, however, is their “baby”, a marble cupcake with chocolate chips and cream cheese.

Jusr recently Babycakes San Diego also opened a dessert cocktail bar called Babys Bar. The bar’s mixologists plies customers with ‘liquid sweets’ like chocolate martinis, butterscotch truffles, and orange dreamsicles. These are, as the owners say, “desserts that would make your grandmother dance on the bar!

Aside from bringing mouthwatering temptations to customers, Babycakes San Diego is also hoping to be a home away from home for its patrons. Its laid back atmosphere is helped by a color palette consisting of turquoise, pale pink and chocolate brown. Two huge patios allow customers to enjoy the pleasant San Diego weather while enjoying a pastry and the free WiFi. The dramatic vaulted ceilings and chandelier make the interiors cozy yet elegant.

Babycakes San Diego keeps later hours than most other dessert places so clients need not rush through their cupcakes. Babycakes’ super friendly staff is open to serve the cafe’s sweets-loving habitues until 11 pm on Sundays to Thursdays. The pastries, drinks, and comfortable venue are available to the public until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.Babycakes San Diego Logo

Since the shop’s opening in 2008, Babycakes has matched San Diego’s cupcake fans with their dessert sweethearts by giving out brochures, menus, business cards, stickers, and rack cards produced by UPrinting. The dessert bar’s owners find UPrinting’s website useful for their purposes and say that “The printing was high quality and fit into our start-up budget without breaking us…leaving room for us to make more cakes and cupcake creations.

Although their dedication to creating cakes and cupcakes is obvious, it is clear that Babycakes San Diego is not simply another bakery. Co-owner Christopher Stavros describes his cafe as, “the happiest place south of Disneyland”. The bevvy of delectable treats and cocktails, the amazing service, and friendly setting make Babycakes San Diego a one-of-a-kind adult playground where it’s just impossible not to fall in love.
